THE MANGO TANGO STORY Founded in late 2003 by two industry insiders, Mango Tango offers a novel choice in laptop bags -- and related accessories -- to fashion-starved, computer-carrying women. For more than 20 years, product development mavens Carla Christoff and Lorrie Smith traveled the globe on assignment for a host of apparel and home textile companies including Federated Department Stores, Phillips Van Heusen, Warnaco, Calvin Klein, and Bugle Boy, to name just a few. On parallel courses for separate employers, they sourced finished goods and fabrications from Bangkok to Bombay and negotiated with licensees on orders and pricing, while developing and testing new products for designer collections, mass market, and every price point in between. Their paths crossed, and their ugly and ungainly laptop bags may even have collided, in the mid-1990s while both were employed in the home textile business. The global sourcing of home textiles was not the only thing the two had in common, however. They soon realized that they shared something else: first-hand familiarity and frustration with the market’s utter lack of appealing laptop bags. Thus Mango Tango was born, and the two declared war on the tyranny of black ballistic nylon. Christoff and Smith parlayed their design expertise and sourcing savvy to bring a new breed of laptop bags, totes, and coordinated accessories -- including clutches, passport holders, and wristlets- to the market at unbeatable prices. The fashionable yet functional Mango Tango line is inspired by designer handbags, and features pieces fabricated from a vibrant assortment of colors and textiles including faux leather and suede, faux crocodile and lizard, and assorted metallic and canvas fabrications.
